Nicholas D. Kristof

Winner of two Pulitzer Prizes, New York Times Columnist and Human Rights activist. He and his wife (who shared the Pulitzer Prize with him) Sheryl WuDunn traveled the world to find evil and then to expel it. Their travels are accounted in their book Half the Sky, in which they tell stories of the oppression and despair that impact the women of our world. Then, they offer ways we can help.  At times difficult to read and even more difficult to fit into casual conversation, these are real stories of real women...that need our help. Most of the women they encounter live a daily existence ranging from severe limitation to utter hell.  Read the book to understand, read the book to be inspired, read the book to change the world.

Somaly Mam

Somaly Mam was sold into prostitution as a child and spent most of her young life imprisoned in a brothel near her home in a poor Cambodian village. In her, at times difficult to read, autobiograhy she conveys her story about her undeniably tragic experiences and how she channels hope to create a dynamic organization that saves the lives of young girls and gives them a chance at life. She is a crusader, a warrior and a gleaming example of what compassion looks like.

Posh Abilities is honored to support The Somaly Mam Foundation, a nonprofit charity committed to ending modern day slavery in North America and around the world. Much of modern day slavery is a result of human trafficking. Human trafficking is a multi-billion dollar industry and is the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world. With over two million women and children sold into sexual slavery each year, it is a global crisis that must be stopped. You can join Somaly's cause to end slavery here.

Greg Mortenson

Greg Mortenson (shown here) is a human rights activist and author of several books including Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Journey to change the world in which he recounts his journey starting with his failed attempt to climb Pakistan's highest mountain (K2) to successfully establishing schools for girls in some of the most remote and oppressive areas of the world. Read his story and connect with his causes.

"You can drop bombs, build roads, put in electricity or hand out condoms...but unless the girls are educated, a society will not change."

Mother Teresa

"If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other". "If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other".

In 1979 when Mother Teresa (Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu) won the Nobel Peace Prize her extraordinary life work helping the absolute poorest of the poor in the slums of Calcutta (India) as well as many other parts of the world, it was unlikely that she knew that she would one day be on the path to Sainthood. She believed very strongly in the power of global connectivity and peace and when it came to how she spent her life, in service of others, she cared very little about imaginary lines drawn on paper maps intended to signify at which points we could stop caring for the humanity of life. She saw clearly that we are all interconnected in an undeniable web of life and will be forever remembers as one of the great spiritual and social leaders of our time. Read her story and connect with her causes.

Hillary Clinton

During a moving speech at the 2010 Care Conference in Washington, DC, Hillary Clinton told a group of nearly 1,000 social activists (Posh Abilities Volunteers included) that, "If you want to gauge the stability of a country, it is measured not by the number of weapons or the value of it's currency; the stabiliy of a country is measured by the way it treats its women." Mrs. Clinton has dedicated her life and career to social service through her varied government positions, charitable causes and through her efforts with the Clinton Foundation.
